    Google Buzz: The New Facebook?

    How many people do you know who aren’t on Facebook? Since the emergence of this super-widely used social networking site, I personally don’t know that many people who haven’t ended up giving in and signing up to share a digitalized version of themselves with the Web world. Of course, before it, there was MySpace (never liked the interface, personally), and Friendster (sort of forgot about it once I started using Facebook more and more), but Facebook really made things simple—starting with how most people use their real names (first and last), making it sooooooo much easier to look them up and keep in touch, or even reconnect after several years.

    With more than 400 million active users, it seems it would be hard to create another social networking site that would even have the potential to rival it… but if anyone can, it would definitely be Google.

    Which brings us to the topic of this post: Google Buzz. What is all the buzz about Buzz?

    Check out its main features + see it in action, after the jump!

    Mainly it seems Google is set to launch a new social networking site that is built into its über popular webmail platform, Gmail. So, contrarily to how they did things with Google Wave (on invitation only), active Gmail subscribers need not even sign up, they’ll just automatically be users. Hmmm well, that’s plenty of users right there!

    The question now is whether it will actually catch on. I, for one, am enthusiastic to try it, and especially to see how well it’ll do.

    Some of the features it promises to offer are:

    *Gmail inbox integration;

    *Being able to browse full-screen photos from popular sites;

    *Easy connections to sites people already use, like Flickr, and Twitter;

    *Being able to see updates in real time (sort of like in Google Wave);

    *Recommended posts that you might be interested in.

    I’m looking forward to seeing the interface and an interface that is smooth and clean, much like most of Google’s other products.
