Winter Contest: Play in the Snow with Canadian Tire

January 19th, 2012 by Ariane Leave a reply »

Thanks for your enthusiasm and participation! The contest is now closed. (All comments sent in AFTER 12pm EST will NOT be in the running.) We will be choosing a winner shortly.

Winter is here and, for many of you across Canada, it’s time to bundle up and take part in many of the winter events that are taking place from coast to coast. Be it outdoor concerts, light festivals, ice skating, or a snow day with the kids, there are many reasons to head outside rather than staying in this season!

But given our low temperatures, playing out in the snow has consequences (dry skin chapped lips, frostbite…), and our friends at Canadian Tire are here to help with a few guidelines:

  • Opt for layering when putting together your outdoor ensemble, i.e. the “onion method” of getting dressed. Whenever you get a little too hot, simply remove the top layer. Note: humidity is your number one enemy during cold temperatures!
  • To keep yourself warm, sip warm drinks throughout the day. As for being “green”, use a portable flask, which you can fill with coffee, tea or hot chocolate and have it on-hand when the occasion presents itself.
  • Always have a packet of facial tissues with you to avoid wiping your nose on the back of your gloves. (Admit it: we all do that!) A runny nose is definitely a mood killer when out on a romantic snow walk!
  • Speaking of love, for kissable lips, be sure to hydrate your pout numerous times a day. Chapped lips will be a thing of the past.
  • Before leaving your house, be sure you’re dressed appropriately: wear a scarf, hat and/or earmuffs to protect your ears, cheeks and nose, which are most prone to frostbite; a warm coat; warm gloves; and waterproof boots on your feet. Keep both your core and your extremities warm, and note that it’s the latter from which heat escapes the quickest.

To help you with your winter prep, Canadian Tire wants to offer one lucky divinista a winter care package, chock-full of goodies! This includes Burt’s Bees lip balm, ski goggles, a Canadian Tire gift card, a  Thermos insulated container, Grabber toe and hand warmers, an ergonomic backpack, and much more!

For a chance to take home the prize, valued at $200, all you have to do is a leave a comment below, answering this question: What do you love most about winter? We’ll randomly select a winner among all eligible entries.

Don’t forget to also include your email address (don’t worry: only we can see it) so that we are able to contact you, should you win. Contest closes on Monday, January 23 at 12pm EST.

Good luck!
