Contest: EXperience Color. EXude Confidence with Second Denim Co.

*This contest is now closed. We will be selecting a winner shortly. Thank you for your participation!*

Jeans: many of us naturally have a love-hate relationship with the classic denim trouser, which doesn’t always complement our varied shapes and sizes. Add to that the stiff quality of most jeans, which make bending, let alone sitting down virtually impossible, and you’ve got the stuff nightmares are made of! Unless we’re talking about Second Denim Co.

Shire Canada’s Scholarship Program for Adults with ADHD: A First in Canada

March 8th, 2013 by Katia No comments »

shire_canada_ADHD_scholarship_program_2013Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, better known as ADHD, is the most common mental health disorder in children. But unbeknownst to many, ADHD persists well into adulthood, with a whopping 80% of children diagnosed with ADHD still exhibiting signs of the disorder in adolescence, while 60% of adults remain affected by core symptoms of ADHD. The repercussions of this mental illness in children are well known, but how does ADHD, which remains under-diagnosed in adults, affect men and women on a day-to-day basis?

The New Zara.com Launching March 6th

March 1st, 2013 by Katia No comments »

zara.comOur love affair with European label Zara goes way back. Its understated chic offerings beckon us week after week.  Not many labels have successfully garnered a loyal following–as evidenced by the hordes of shoppers routinely vying for its trendy wares in store–the way the Spanish powerhouse has.  The only thing that left us wanting all these years was the ability to simply open a browser and fill a virtual cart full of perfectly-tailored blazers, chic two-tone sweaters, crisp and cool buttons-ups, and leather pleated skirts whenever the weather is less than inviting.

At last, our beloved fashion retailer has granted our dearest wish. After catering to 18 European countries, the U.S., and Japan,  Zara will launch its Canadian online store on March 6th. We don’t doubt its new home on the web will attract an equal number of, if not more, fashion plates, but safe to say they’ll be no lineup at checkout at zara.com. Amen to that!

Go Back in Time with Pizza Hut

February 21st, 2013 by Vicki No comments »

1993… It sure feels like a long time ago, doesn’t it? We all like to reminisce about the good ol’ days, when times were simpler, and eating out didn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Pizza Hut recently sent us a few pizzas to munch on during lunch, hand-tossed style pies for a mere $10 each. (Yeah, we know.) Back to the price of the early-’90s, it’ll definitely allow people to indulge more often for a deliciously hot pizza on a Friday night. (The only thing that’s changed since the ’90s? You can order your pizzas online!)

What else do we love–or love to mock–about the ’90s? Steve Urkel. Super-bright surf pants. The NSync vs. Backstreet Boys debate. Receiving our monthly copy of YM in the mail. Our Sony Walkman… Oh, how we could go on!

Some things we’d like to have back, such as weekends spent hanging up posters of Jonathan Taylor Thomas on our walls (instead of running errands and paying bills). And some thing we can do without (thank goodness John Stamos’ mullet was just a phase). But to have $10 pizzas return to Pizza Hut, even for a little while, is a reason to rejoice.

Now, excuse us while we grab a slice and watch reruns of Saved by the Bell

Kids + Sports: Help Level the Playing Field

November 8th, 2012 by Vicki 1 comment »

Sports: we know very well that when kids are involved in athletics, it not only keeps them fit and sharp, but definitely acts as learning tool, teaching them  important life skills, how to be part of a team, and all in all transform them into better people.

Level the Field is a new campaign, coordinated by the organization Right to Play, which helps to raise awareness of the driving force sports has on our kids.

A recent survey found that 95% of Canadian parents can see how sports can positively affect their kids and teach them skills that will benefit their futures. However, they can’t say the same for children in developing countries, with Canadians saying that access to play falls behind other issues and has little importance when compared to healthcare, education and gender equality.

So Level the Field wants to educate and inform Canadians, and help children globally through play, sports and activities. After all, for kids facing adversity and impoverishment, playing can keep them healthy and safe… and lets kids be kids.
