Best- and Worst-Dressed at the 2011 Emmys

September 19th, 2011 by Vicki 2 comments »

Last night, the stars shone bright at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, honouring the best in the world of television. Many actors and actresses took home a golden statuette, but many more were positively golden on the red carpet. Below, our best- and worst-dressed of the evening.

Kate Winslet

Lea Michele

Kerry Washington

Red rocked the red carpet last night, making it the was the “it” colour of the evening. Above, Emmy winner Kate Winslet in Elie Saab, Lea Michele in Marchesa, and Kerry Washington in this shimmery number by Zuhair Murad Couture.

Sofia Vergara

Cobie Smulders

Jane Krakowski

As for the other colours of the rainbow, Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara (above) didn’t disappoint in this coral gown by Vera Wang. How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders goes Grecian with this gorgeous blue Alberta Ferretti dress that really pops. And new mom Jane Krakowski shone bright in a silver number by J. Mendel Mica.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Heidi Klum

Julianna Margulies

And now onto the worst… Emmy winner Gwyneth Paltrow bares her belly in this beaded Emilio Pucci gown. There are just too many ruffles in Heidi Klum’s dress by Christian Siriano! And Julianna Margulies, while a big winner last night for Lead Actress in a Drama for The Good Wife, this white Armani Privé number definitely wasn’t on-par with her previous red carpet choices.

What do you think, readers? Who was hot (and who not) on the red carpet last night? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below!

Emmys 2011: the nominations are in!

Actress Archi Panjabi of The Good Wife accepts her Best Supporting Actress award last year (c) 2011, by United Press International. All Rights Reserved.

Hello TV junkies! The Emmy Award nominations were announced this morning and, well, it’s a slew of pleasant surprises, but not without a handful of snubs (True Blood, where are thou?!).

Popular comedies Glee and Modern Family made the cut once again this year, the latter nabbing a whopping 17 nominations. As for drama, popular favourites Mad Men, Dexter, and Friday Night Lights are in the running as expected, with newbies Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones joining the race for outstanding drama series.  But to our chagrin, we see some deserving folks were obviously left out. While Breaking Bad was ineligible given it didn’t air during nominating season, HBO’s True Blood was completely shut out, not to mention Mad Men’s January Jones for outstanding actress in a drama series. Yikes!

See a sample list of the nominees after the jump.

What’s on TV: The 62nd Annual Emmy Awards

August 30th, 2010 by Vicki No comments »

Last night was television’s hottest night, with the best of the small screen honoured by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. From drama and comedy to reality and variety, the evening’s winners included old standards and fresh surprises. You joined us last night as we live-tweeted the ceremony and now we bring you our recap of the 62nd Annual Emmy Awards.

Host Jimmy Fallon opened up the evening with a musical number, with the help of Glee cast members, Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Betty White and Community’s Joel McHale. It certainly brought down the house, and Fallon definitely relied on music for most of the evening, whether introducing each category (drama, comedy, etc.) with an acoustic guitar, or paying tribute to shows we lost (24, Law & Order, Lost) as Elton John, Boyz II Men and Green Day. (His swan song to Lost to the tune of “Time of Your Life” was particularly hilarious: “The island, it was mystical/And in the end they died/I didn’t understand it, but I tried.”)

Best-Dressed at the Emmys 2010

August 30th, 2010 by Vicki 3 comments »

The 62nd Annual Emmy Awards aired last night on NBC (and CTV) and, aside from all the winners and memorable moments throughout the evening, what the stars were wearing are always a highlight to any awards show.

At the Emmys, the hottest in TV opted for “it” colours like navy blue and purples, simple black, shimmer and sequins, whites and nudes, and lots of detailing. As for hair, loose, sexy ponytails and wavy curls were also en vogue last night. Who shined on the red carpet? See our fave (and least-favourite) styles after the jump.

The Emmys Go Interactive

This Sunday’s Emmy Awards are bound to be very interesting, with host Jimmy Fallon maybe announcing your name (well, your Twitter handle, at least) on live TV.

NBC released a statement yesterday, which tells users that they can tweet their own introductions to the various presenters of the evening. The best tweet for each celeb will be read by Fallon before each presenter takes the stage. You can either visit www.nbc.com/imontheemmys to view the list of presenters, see what other people are tweeting, and make your own contribution without having to leave the page. Or you can tweet straight from Twitter, so long as you use the hash tag #imontheemmys. You can submit your own witticism from now up until right before the start of the ceremony.

What do you think? Many mediums use social media to encourage interactivity with users, so we think this is a great way to get fans involved in the Emmys telecast! Will you contribute a 140-word intro for your fave celeb?

The Emmy Awards air Sunday night at 8PM on NBC and CTV. And also note that we’ll be live-tweeting the event, so be sure to follow us on www.twitter.com/divinedotca!
