Montreal Fashion Week Day 4: Denis Gagnon

It’s not a surprise that Denis Gagnon caused utter chaos at the Marché Bonsecours on the last day of Montreal Fashion Week. He closed the 18th edition of the Fashion Week with quite a show, one that was unsurprisingly packed.

At the start of the show, ticket owners took to their seats, others remained standing and together, we all witnessed Gagnon’s brilliant closing show. Minutes prior to the fashion show, images from the documentary “My name is Denis Gagnon” were unveiled as part of FIFA and were broadcast on a giant screen. At that moment, the same thought was on everyone’s mind: what could he be planning this time?

Dramatic music blared as the much-awaited show debuted. The designer’s latest style was introduced: the decorative pendant composed of fringes hung carefully one to another. The result was a true masterpiece of couture. But what about Gagnon’s famous zippers? Don’t panic, he is still using them! But in this collection, he recreated them in hard gold, copper and bronze. » Read more: Montreal Fashion Week Day 4: Denis Gagnon

Montreal Fashion Week Day 3: Barilà

At the previous edition of Montreal Fashion Week, femininity and fluidity were big themes at the Barilà show. On Wednesday, the least we can say is that the label surprised us—surprised us, and charmed us, actually.

The Barilà sisters – Sabrina, who studied fashion, and Claudia, an ex-model – put aside the softness that has been so present in the past. Make way for rock, and glam… and let the show begin! Warning: the collection imposes shapes that are both modern and eccentric.

Montreal Fashion Week Day 3: Annie 50

Day 3 of Montreal Fashion Week: the first show we head to is that of Annie 50, a label founded by Annie Chagnon and Amélie Gingras-Rioux in 2005. There’s a good, positive vibe in the air as the music (a mix that seems to include themes from Batman and Bond!) starts and the first model strikes a pose—the same one as the lady on the Annie 50 logo.

And it’s a go! The clothes are ladylike with a hint of cheekiness, and come in a colour scheme that focuses on greys and blacks, but with a splash of purple, turquoise, and red thrown in for good measure.

Ribbed knits, retro flower prints and sequins all make an appearance. We also note the presence of wider-legged pants (which will be a nice change from our ever-favourite skinnys) with a band at the top, as well as a-line and pencil skirts with cutesy button details.

Montreal Fashion Week Day 2: Coccolily

Before this edition of Montreal Fashion Week even started, we gave you a peek at the Coccolily label. The very first collection of its creator, Naana Tennachie Yankey, appeared like a fresh breeze on the Montreal fashion scene. We had been anticipating the follow-up ever since!

This time around, the designer continues along the same lines, signing a second series of pieces that are ultra feminine (to not use the word “girly”), and very sensual. By the way, Naana is no slave to seasons: her clothes aren’t necessarily warm, nor are they too light. Perfect to help us wait for next year in style. On the catwalk, we discovered the fruits of her imagination for 2010-2011» Read more: Montreal Fashion Week Day 2: Coccolily

Montreal Fashion Week Day 2: Eve Gravel

We were already über excited to see Eve Gravel’s new collection… even before we got the invitation that featured a model wearing cat ears. The prospect of discovering Gravel’s chic rock designs had us looking forward to what was to be the final show of Day 2 of Montreal Fashion Week. And we were not disappointed!

The show started to music by Jean Phi Goncalves that totally rocked on a positive beat, and kept the show’s energy level high. Sweet-looking, flowy dresses were among the first pieces shown, in polka dots, and small leopard print—the first hint of a feline inspiration that was definitely present throughout the collection.

Gravel’s mix of textures and prints made for pieces that were both glamorous and edgy, and others that were sensual and feminine. We couldn’t get enough of the contrasts that were used: frills and leopard prints, sequins and fringe, lace and stripes.

Find out more and see some pics after the jump!
