Christian Siriano and Lela Rose for Payless

February 23rd, 2012 by Katia No comments »

Shoes, shoes, and more shoes! Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but we certainly wouldn’t think twice about swapping a diamond necklace for a wall-sized bookcase filled with towering heels! Call it an obsession, an addiction, or a mere indulgence, but a decadent and alluring pair of shoes never fails to tug at our heartstrings.

Naturally, given our penchant for adornments for the sole, we couldn’t take our eyes off the gems unveiled on the runway at this past New York Fashion Week.

Among said creations, the shoes from the fall 2012 Christian Siriano for Payless Gold and Lela Rose for Payless designer collections took our breath away.

Our favourite? These decadent “snow bat” croco pumps adorned with a sumptuous black velvet tip, fashioned by Christian Siriano of Project Runway fame.  These stylish pumps, whose chiseled surface call to mind the veinous creatures of 1930s horror film The Vampire Bat (the designer’s inspiration for this delightfully macabre collection), are an ode to black and white cinema of yore. And as fans of Old Hollywood elegance and glam, we wholeheartedly approve!

Architectural influences are clearly evident in Lela Rose for Payless’ fall 2012 collection, whose structural and clean-cut designs echo the linear quality present in the architectural wonders of renowned Spanish architect, sculptor, and structural engineer Santiago Calatrava. Inspired by the cable-stayed bridges pioneered by Calatrava, Rose fashioned a sublimely minimal, yet fanciful collection, a welcomed breath of fresh air in a world where the emphasis on excess have birthed  many a shoe  that lean on the grotesque!

The below Bordeaux and mustard confection is our undisputed favourite from Rose. Named the Pontevedra after one of the cities hosting Calatrava’s bridge designs, these Mary Jane pumps are a dream! Sadly, we’ll have to wait until September to get our hands on these beauties, which will be available at Payless stores across Canada. Until then, we happily indulge in both designers’ equally enviable and affordable spring 2012 offerings, available right now at Payless stores nationwide.
