Virgin Group’s Sir Richard Branson and Glee’s Cory Monteith were in Montreal today for the opening of the first Virgin Mobile flagship store in Canada… and to help support a great cause!
Monteith, a Virgin Unite ambassador, and Quebec songstress IMA presented the new limited edition Samsung RE*Generation Gravity 3 phone: $15 from each one sold will go towards helping youth get off the streets—that’s a potential $200,000 to be raised!
The group also stopped by Dans La Rue earlier today—it is a Montreal organization that helps homeless youth get off the streets and back on their feet. A barbecue was held and they were able to interact with a bunch of the kids who are being helped by the organization. Executive director Aki Tchitacov proudly spoke during today’s press conference about how he meets older, successful members of society who were once helped by Dans la Rue as teens.
What motivates Branson to help at-risk youth? He says that he lives “the most incredible life” and “anyone lucky enough to be successful should use that success to make a difference.”
As for Monteith, the Canadian says that the problem of youth homelessness in Canada is huge. In fact, he admitted that he had “personal struggles as a kid so this hit close to home.” He hopes to motivate others with his involvement with such an important cause.
Dans la Rue was presented with a $100,000 donation from Virgin Mobile and Virgin Unite.
