4 Ways to Get Your Skin Ready for Winter

Fact: the cold doesn’t do much good to our skin. And sadly, our winters are long. Wayyy too long! I don’t mean to rush you but, it’s coming faster than you think. Did you notice the frost on your windshield this morning? That’s your cue! It’s time to adopt a daily routine that will help you through the Canadian winter weather. Pens out, take notes!

1. Drink a lot of water
If there’s one timeless habit to adopt, this is the one. We understand, it’s cold and you might not be as thirsty, or you’d simply rather sip on a hot tea! There is nothing wrong with it, but it’s not enough. Plus, tea has a diuretic effect and dehydrates the body, so it’s crucial to drink fresh water to compensate. It is also important to know that colder weather can dehydrate you the same way hot weather does. If you aren’t able to drink your 8 glasses a day, a tip is to add some fruits, lemons or mint in your water, as a little push! For those who’d rather have something that’s more seasonal, try some orange or even… a cinnamon stick! Its antioxidant power will mesmerize you.

2. Exfoliate on a regular basis
Skin renewal, rings a bell? Something you should never neglect! It is crucial to exfoliate at least once a week in order to eliminate the dead cells. This helps your skin oxygenate and activate cellular regeneration. Taking time to exfoliate always helps your skin absorb hydrating products and optimizes the care you offer it. Your skin will thank you!

3. Regularly hydrate your skin
Here in the office, it’s unanimous; we love face oils, hair oils, and even better; oils for the whole body. Only a few years ago, adding an oil to our beauty routine would’ve sounded like an absurd idea, but now, we can’t get enough of these products! They take up a special place in our cosmetics drawer! Our recent discoveries? The Lipidol body cleansing oil and after-shower oil, from the same brand that makes Bio-Oil. Cleaning your face with hot water and the dryness in the air caused by heaters are things that can affect your skin by taking away its natural oil. Desperate times, desperate measures! These oils are specially made to hydrate and nourish the epidermis. By replenishing the natural oil of the skin, these products contribute to the maintenance of its hydration and prevent the water from evaporating.

Lipidol body cleansing and after-shower oil $8,97 each at Walmart and online.

4. Watch what is on our plate
It is no surprise anymore that everything we eat affects our skin directly. With fresh fruits and an abundance of affordable vegetables, it was easier to eat healthier during the warmer seasons. However, keeping healthy and glowing skin during the winter time is still possible. Our allies? The ones that are high in vitamin C; citruses, parsley, green bell peppers and spinach, foods high in beta carotene; carrots, cabbages, melons and apricots and polyphenols; red fruits, soya, onion, chocolate and tea. Also, don’t forget about omega 3!
