Like Drake, the only running I’m typically interested in is running through the 6 with my woes. Chances of me participating in a fun run have been roughly on par with finding the Loch Ness Monster in my bathtub. But recently there’s been an increase of themed fun runs, with an emphasis with participating in teams to help you meet fitness goals and #squadgoals.
1. Zombie run:
Walking Dead fans, rejoyce! Live the dream by participating in the various zombie runs availble across Canada. Although there isn’t a single race that spans across the country, there are still loads of various options. Like this one, in Ottawa! Or this one, in Calgary.
Bonus: to get really into your zone, use the “Zombies, Run!” training app.
2. Night Race:
The Pure Protein Night Race is a 5k or 10k run through city parks at dusk. Sounds potentially dangerous, but all participants are decked out with head lamps for convenience, and an aesthetically pleasing, moving light show. Plus, there’s a DJ afterwards for a seamless transition to partying.
3. Spartan Race:
Watch your street cred soar to star-power proportions with the Spartan Race. Decked out with a badass obstacle course, it’s renowned for extreme difficulty, and reputed to only be attempted by people who are truly dedicated to the fitness hustle. There are different levels of difficulty, though, so it’s easy to start small!
4. Foam Fest:
Down to do an obstacle course (but one that’s not as scary as the Spartan?) Foam Fest features a bouncy house, 50-foot slide, and a foam pit. This is a great way to get outside, have a good time, not to mention, the perfect excuse to get inside a bouncy house!
5. The Colour Run:
From my understanding, this is basically a tye-dying session gone horribly awry that is the iedal opportunity to take a whole bunch of selfies of you and your squad coverd in paint. What’s not to love?
Are you going to try any fun runs? Did I forget any? Let us know in the comments section!
