I don’t always like to wear makeup. Sometimes there’s not enough time in the mornings to apply it or I just don’t feel like wearing it. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to look good.
Luckily, there are loads of other accessories and tips to boost gorgeousness without a stitch of makeup being required. Here are my tips!
1.Have a Great Hair Day
It might not make sense to say that a great hairstyle can make your face look better, but having pretty hair really does affect your looks. If you don’t believe me, check out how bad hair choices made these celebrities look less-than-fabulous.
There are easy ways to make your hair enhance your face. First, get a good haircut. The right haircut can help to thin your face, such as with an asymmetrical bob. Or, it could soften your face, such as the case with bangs. Also, choose hair colour that suits your skin. Hair colour plays a huge role in how your face looks: just look at how differently Ashlee Simpson looks with different hair colours and how tones of red are best to brighten her up. Your hairdresser will be able to advise you on what colours look good on you.
2. Bow to the Brows
Your eyebrows frame your face and they can enhance your eye area beautifully without the use of any makeup at all. Follow their natural line when plucking to ensure you don’t over-pluck and get rid of all the stray hairs underneath them. Polished brows are easy to achieve this season because they’re fuss-free: after plucking, brush your brows upwards to enhance their shape while looking natural. That’s it. Easy as pie, plus you don’t have to shape them every day.
3. Fill Your Neck with Colour
I love scarves because they really add personality to an outfit. If used correctly, they can also make you glow. Choose them in colours that work with your skin tone. If your skin tone is warm, you should choose warm colours (earthy colours). If your skin tone is cold, you look best in cold colours (sky and sea tones).
How do you find your skin tone? Here’s a quick tip: hold a white sheet of paper next to your face in front of a mirror. If your skin looks a little pinkish or blue, you have a cold tone; if it looks yellow or apricot, you have a warm tone.
Wearing colours that match your skin tone is important to look vibrant – if you don’t, your skin can look washed out.
4. Play Up Your Jewelry
Jewelry brightens you up and you can also use facial jewelry to bring attention to your best features.
- Wear bright and long earrings that reach your jaw if you have a defined jawline.
- Wear funky ear cuffs to add personality to your face and draw attention upwards (which is also handy to accentuate your eye area).
- If you have a heart-shaped face, choose chandelier earrings that are wider at the bottom. This is a clever way to balance out your narrow chin.
- Necklaces with geometric shapes work well with the diamond face shape because they complement its sharp corners.
- If you want to make a long face shorter, wear a trendy choker.
5. Accessorize Wisely
Besides for jewelry, there are other accessories that enhance your beauty. When it comes to hats, don’t just wear them to be warm (guilty as charged). Choose ones that will accentuate your face. For example, beanies can soften your face, such as if you have a sharp jawline. Chic fedoras thin your face and add a nice touch when worn at an angle if you have a strong, square face as they break the symmetry.
Tip: No matter what face shape you have, bear in mind that the top part of the hat must never be wider than your cheekbones.
When choosing spectacles or sunglasses, take your face shape into consideration. If you have a heart-shaped face, glasses that sweep upwards (such as with cat-eye frames) are flattering and enlarge the eye area. Soften square or rectangular faces work with rounder frames, and rounder faces look good with angular frames to create contrast.
Not wearing makeup doesn’t mean that you have to feel sloppy or not look your best. With such a variety of accessories available to you, you can enhance your facial beauty in a snap.
