Having been in the wine industry for over 15 years now, Jessica Harnois likes simplicty and playfulness when it comes to wine. This beautiful young woman offers dynamic conferences with her agency, Vins au Féminin, as well as three books she has written. She is a great role model for women who are trying to break into an almost all-male industry. Read her answers below if you would like to see how much of a #girlboss she is!
Are you a morning bird or a night owl?
Definitely a night owl. I work in the wine industry, so it’s perfect for me!
What is your favorite item of clothing?
Apart from my onesie pyjama, which is a synonym of vacation and relaxation to me, I love my leather jacket and that ONE pair of jeans! I also love a good cocktail dress.
Where do you go for drinks?
When I have time, I like to go to Pullman or the Express. For a different ambiance and original cocktails, I love the Red Tiger, thank you to Thierry Daraize for this discovery!
Your favorite places to shop?
Rudsak, HR2 at the DIX30, La Petite Garçonne and I love Espace Pépin!
Who is your female role model?
Marie-Pier St-Hilaire, the CEO of AFI Expertise. An extraordinary businesswoman who has 2 master’s degree, including one from Harvard, nothing less. She’s nice, funny, inspiring and works hard to achieve her dreams. One of the only women member of the YPO (Young President’s Organization).
Flats or heels?
Heels! The higher the better!
What makes you smile?
My daughter, mostly in the mornings!
Your favorite restaurant?
The Express, a classic. Always good, trendy, with an interesting and affordable wine menu.
In your opinion, what is the hardest thing women have to face in 2016?
Here in Quebec, we are lucky because I think that the male/female issue isn’t a problem. What matters is how hardworking you are, everyone can succeed!
What is the last book you’ve read?
La Puissance de la joie by Frédéric Lenoir. Great philosophy and is very motivational, a sweet read!
Where would you like to go on your next trip?
Prague. I haven’t been yet but I was told that it is a beautiful city. I can’t wait to discover Absinthe bars!
Do you have a life motto?
Life is beautiful when you live the life you want.
What’s the one product that’s always in your purse?
My business cards!
What is a fact about you that would surprise others?
The fact that I constantly laugh! My grandma kept telling me that I even laughed in my sleep. Because of the fact that I work in the wine industry, people are always surprised to find out how approachable I am.
What changes concerning women would you like to see in 2016?
I would like for women to understand and feel that they are able to achieve what they want and they should all follow their dreams and aim high.
What is something you’d like to do more often?
Going to the chalet with my family. My favorite memories are from there.
What advice would you like to give to today’s women?
More efficiency, less perfectionism! Women are often too hard on themselves. Look at the bright side of things! Also; find yourself a mentor!
