Barbecue season is here! You’ve got your grill all revved-up, and now all that’s left are the burgers. You can opt for the traditional beef burger, but you can also play around with the types of meat, buns, and even toppings! We’ve got five ways to get creative with your burgers this summer.
Go Greek by opting for ground lamb instead of beef! A neat trick is having a piece of goat cheese at the center of the patty (or, if you prefer, just sprinkle a few crumbs on top after grilling). Top with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, and don’t forget the tzatziki sauce! (Serve in a pita bread rather than your typical hamburger bun.)
Go spicy with this Indian-inspired burger! Mix some curry powder, ground cinnamon, ground cumin, and ground coriander into your ground beef (or even lamb) before grilling the patties. For a fresh and unique topping, add some mango chutney sauce and coconut shavings.
Hot Wing Burger
Use your favourite hamburger recipe; the secret to this popular barbecue meal lies in the sauce. In a bowl, mix some Ranch dressing, hot sauce, and crumbled blue cheese. Then add a spoonful over your patty for a unique taste. Best eaten with a bag of your favourite plain potato chips on the side!
We love Italian food, but a plate of Fettucini Alfredo just doesn’t scream “summer”. To mangiare italiano at the barbecue, use ground chicken to make your burger patties. Once grilled to perfection, top with your favourite jarred (or homemade) marinara sauce and a slice of mozzarella cheese. Yum!
Using any regular hamburger recipe, add some cumin powder and a couple of drops of hot sauce to the beef for an added kick. Topping suggestions include your favourite salsa (either mild or spicy) and shredded cheddar cheese. Like your burger extra-dressed? Add a dollop of sour cream and some guacamole! You can serve it in a tortilla or a Kaiser bun, and eat it with a side of tortilla chips.
