There is rest for the weary during TIFF – even celebs need their beauty sleep. Most of the press junkets for the Festival flicks are at downtown Toronto’s Intercontinental Hotel, but few, if any stars actually stay there. They prefer the more posh digs at places like:
This hotel is one of the closest to the Festival’s main red carpets at the TIFF Bell Lightbox and Roy Thomson Hall. The Ritz Carlton is one of the world’s most luxurious hotel brands, and the Toronto location features a 400 piece art collection, making it the perfect place for celebs to hang their hats while in town for the Festival. Stars like George Clooney, Olivia Wilde and Canada’s own Ryan Gosling have enjoyed a stay at the posh hotel.
divine Tip – Why not live like a star and enjoy a delectable wine and cheese tasting at TOCA – which has Canada’s only cheese cave?
Another sumptuous hotel close to the Red Carpet action of TIFF; the Shangri-La has hosted celebrities like Dakota Johnson, Festival sweetheart Jessica Chastain and the always in demand Jake Gyllenhaal. Its restaurant, BOSK, with its private dining room, has also seen a fair share of celebs.
divine Tip – Hungry? Try Momofuku Noodle Bar or a treat from celebrity baker Christine Tosi’s Milk Bar to fill you up while waiting to take a selfie with your favourite star.
Yorkville is still popular with the stars when they need to escape from the hustle and bustle of TIFF Central. The Hazelton Hotel is home away from home for celebs like Ben Affleck, Blake Lively and John Hamm when they are in town. Stars appreciate the privacy here, so you won’t have free reign over the hotel unless you want to make a reservation at One.
divine Tip – Grab an ice cream cone at Summer’s Ice Cream across the street, go for a stroll and maybe, just maybe you’ll bump into your favourite actor or actress.
The longtime home of the In Style/Hollywood Foreign Press Association Party, the venerable Windsor Arms is no stranger to A-listers. Stars like Naomi Watts, Eddie Redmayne and Idris Elba have stopped by the party and many more have stayed in the boutique hotel also known as THE place for afternoon tea.
divine Tip – You may not be able to get too close to the hotel, and there are residences across the street, but the restaurants are open to the public.
The Thompson Hotel and The Four Seasons are other places where the stars may stay while in town. Always have your eyes open – you never know when or where a celebrity spotting is going to happen!
