For some people, a vacation means getting away from the daily grind and our usual routine, which may include our exercise regimen. For others, however, a trip away from home doesn’t mean taking a break from their workout. In fact, they may even prefer to incorporate a fitness component to their vacation via a targeted resort package or on a retreat. Below, we’re sharing our recent experience on a weekend fitness retreat with Oakley, as well as a couple of great resorts you need to try if you’re looking for a unique travel experience.

Get moving with Oakley!
Earlier this summer, we had the opportunity to join Oakley (oh, and 200+ other women) for its first edition of InMotion, a weekend fitness retreat, in Charlevoix, Quebec. While staying at the modern-slash-rustic Hôtel La Ferme, we spent two days getting up early, eating well, running, doing yoga, and simply being inspired by the many women in attendance, which included guest of honour and keynote speaker, Olympic medalist Marianne St-Gelais.Attending such an event not only validated our existing opinion that exercising is a social activity—we certainly were more motivated than if we worked out on our own—but also that, sometimes, it’s good to get away from our regular surroundings. From a morning run on a mountainside to a yoga session in the middle of the woods, this change of scenery certainly helped to liven up our workout routine. Plus, being able to enjoy the hotel’s surroundings, such as getting to know the nearby flock of bleating sheep or enjoying some R&R at the spa, was an added bonus.

And we’re more than happy to announce that a second edition of InMotion will be taking place next year! (We’ll be sure to keep you posted when the sign-up period begins.)

This got us thinking that, sometimes, the fitness-minded among us may appreciate such a fully-charged getaway. And, luckily, many hotels and resorts offer their guests targeted fitness and wellness programmes. After all, why put your regular workout routine on hold while you’re away from home? Fitness trainers Tracie and Christopher Vlaun offer numerous classes on the beachfront location, from boot camp to yoga; is there truly a more beautiful thing than morning sun salutations overlooking the Atlantic Ocean? As for the nutrition component, not only can you enjoy the Wellness Program’s more health-conscious menu, but we particularly adore that you can swap your in-room mini bar for a wellness mini-bar, packed with low-sodium and high-protein snacks!
