Your Winter Beauty Survival Guide

8 finds to stay flawless in the cold
Unless you’re lucky enough to be reading this article from someplace warm and sunny, you are most likely dealing with the hallmarks of our cold climate winters: dry skin, chapped lips, and runny eye makeup. Since spring is a little ways off, we thought a few fun tips and tricks to survive this cold weather were in order.

Most of us know that the cold, harsh winds can burn our faces, but many forget about the sun during winter. It is important to wear sunscreen year-round. If your tinted BB or CC cream doesn’t match your changing, more pale complexion, try switching it out for something like Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture SPF 15, or Aveeno Positively Radiant SPF 15 that you can wear on its own, or underneath your makeup.

Switching your mascara and eyeliner to waterproof formulas will protect you from raccoon eyes due to the extra moisturizer, and anything else the wind and Mother Nature may throw at you. Some must-haves for your winter arsenal include Benefit BADgal Waterproof Mascara and L’Oréal Telescopic Precision Liquid Eyeliner.

You may also want to give your favourite matte lipstick a seasonal break. Mattes are very drying, and in winter, that could mean a very chapped lip. A helpful trick is to first exfoliate your lips using your favourite scrub, and then applying Vaseline Lip Therapy with any of your lipsticks, which will repel moisture and hydrate your lips, protecting them from the elements. It’s kind of like having your own extra strength lip balm, in every color of lipstick you own!

If you do experience windburn, or if your hands are so dry you notice that those dreaded hangnails are starting to appear, try applying some vitamin E; they should calm down or disappear after a few applications. We love: Webber Vitamin E Moisture Cream.

And last, but certainly not least, the big game changer: if you can, shower at night instead of the morning. But if you have to in the mornings, leave as much time between your shower and going outside as possible. The dilation of the pores and follicles from your hot shower, followed by the extreme cold outside, completely zaps the moisture out of both your hair and skin. Inevitably, even with showering at night and bundling up, some drying or damage still happens. We swear by Pureology Strength Cure for hair, and ROC Hydra+ 24hr Hydrating Cream for skin.

While these tricks can’t chase winter off any faster, at least they will help you to keep looking great until the spring thaw.
