Spring is the season that everyone associates with cleaning. We start anew and clean our home, but most often neglect to take care of our workplace. Here’s an easy cleaning schedule to follow from Monday to Friday, as well as some extra tips to ensure the cleaning process goes by quickly and remains fun!
Spring Cleaning 101
Divvying up your cleaning tasks over the span of a week (for about 10 to 20 minutes per day) will simplify things, especially if you don’t have a large chunk of time in the day to focus on tidying up.
Come to the office a little earlier every morning to do your cleaning before the workday begins, and be sure to follow our 5-day program below!
Spread the word to your colleagues so that they may tidy up their own workspaces as well, getting you even more motivated for the task. Working in a clean and organized environment will do wonders for your concentration and productivity.
Make a list of all your chores and check them off as you go; this will be tangible proof of your progress, as well as ensure that you don’t forget anything.
Day 1: Operation Paper
Take all paper documents and divide them into three piles: one for papers you need to keep, another for those you don’t have any use for, and a final one for those you aren’t quite sure what to do with just yet. Place the latter in a folder for a month, and you can toss them out afterwards if they have gone unused and unnoticed. Recycle the papers that you don’t have a need for or that you already have electronic versions of. For the remaining papers, get a binder and organize by category, or use dividers to place them in your desk drawer.
Day 2: Operation Computer Hardware
Have you noticed that your screen is always dusty? Static electricity is usually to blame, so be sure to use pre-moistened anti-static wipes to clean your screen! Do also clean your keyboard by turning it upside down and giving it a light shake; you’ll be amazed at how much dirt and gunk can get stuck between the keys. For a more efficient job, use a gas duster: it is a spray can with a long nozzle that can fit through and clean even the tiniest of crevices.
