If you want to put aside money for a special purchase, or just want to trim back on expenses, consider keeping a diary of your spending. Make this easy by keeping all your receipts, then set aside some time at the end of the week to review them. You may be surprised when you look over your record of expenses: $300 on snacks and coffee, $100 on parking tickets? You’ll probably spot some obvious cuts you can make. Depending on how much you need to save, however, you may need to make some tough decisions. Take into account your priorities, and make cuts that work for you.
