Before your vacation or heading to the beach, you need to stock-up on sun protection! It’s not easy to choose amongst SPF (Sun Protection Factor) indexes, and UVA and UVB protections. Don’t panic! We’ve got a report on some of the newcomers to pharmacy shelves this year…

Never without my sun shield!
Even on days when the sun doesn’t make a full-on appearance, we must never leave our bare skin unprotected! Consider this sunscreen as the perfect daily ally. It offers a broad spectrum of protection against UVA and UVB rays and this waterproof cream is full of antioxidants and leaves our skin feeling hydrated. What’s more, it just smells like summer… and is a smart choice for your wallet!

Sheer Touch Sunscreen Lotion SPF 15 by Hawaiian Tropic, $9.99 (240 ml).

The sensitive gal’s best friend
Your zero-damage solution: a combination of ultra-fine mineral screens and active photo-protectors that have excellent absorption powers. Combined with the soothing and non-irritating benefits of thermal water, these makes this new lotion by Avène the perfect product for all types of skin, even the most sensitive. Upon application, the cream goes on smooth—not greasy—leaving behind zero trace.

High Protection Lotion SPF 40 by Avène, $28 (100 ml).

For the sports enthusiast
This sunscreen absorbs, diffuses and reflects UVA and UVB rays. It’s also great for outdoor activities: this extreme protection is both water- and sweat-proof! Also, since it was made for women who just can’t stop moving, the spray allows for an easy application. This lotion is light, non-sticky and moisturizing; just the way we like it!

Soleil Protexion Velvet Moisture Lotion SPF 60 by RoC, $24 (200 ml).

Light yet strong
Ideal for fair complexions and sensitive skin, this body mist offers intense protection. It protects against both types of UV rays, and its high index allows for longer protection. But, be warned: even with a 70 SPF, the spray’s texture is fine and not greasy. A few spritzes offer a light feeling, as well as spreads in a flash!

High Protection Body Mist SPF 70 by Dermaglow, $27.50 (141 g).

The ultimate in protection
SPF 100? You read right! This tube is your best ally, especially when your legs are freshly done with a laser hair removal session, or after your face received a microdermabrasion treatment. If you’ve recently undergone surgery, this protection (the highest currently sold on the Canadian market) is an essential. This lotion is lightly scented and penetrates quickly into the skin, without leaving any white traces behind.

Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 100 by Neutrogena, $15.99 (88 ml).

Did you know? The recommended amount of sunscreen for total-body application is 36 grams, which is the equivalent of seven teaspoons. So don’t be afraid to be generous when applying!

I am going to try Neutrogena dry touch SPF 100 for my face, I hate greasy sunscreen and need a cover for my face all year round , I get blotchy skin unless I protect. Great price too! Now if only there were coupons?

The Neutrogena dry touch is fantastic - I use it in an SPF 30 (I believe) for my face and it's not greasy, tends to stay fairly matte and works well under make-up in the summer! Love it. For winter months I usually stick to a regular moisturizer with SPF 15.
