Why we ♥ the
The quintessential lovable joe, Chris Messina has traded in his trademark “nice guy” persona for a role with a bit more teeth: the ever-douchey Dr. Danny Castellano on FOX’s The Mindy Project. The result is heavenly scrumptious!
Who: Chris Messina
Place of Birth: Northport, New York (USA)
Best Known For: Playing Dr. Castellano, alongside Mindy Kaling in the FOX comedy, The Mindy Project, and for his recurring role as Reese Lansing in the HBO series, The Newsroom.
Other Credits: Argo (2012), Damages (TV-2007), Six Feet Under (TV-2005), Julie & Julia (2009), Away We Go (2009), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008).
Why we love him: The short-statured actor first landed on our radar after his turn as the obnoxiously congenial and dull Doug in Woody Allen’s 2008 quirky romantic comedy, Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Messina, however, actually got his start off-Broadway long before that, and moved on to television and film work soon after. Throughout his budding career, the actor has portrayed the classic “nice guy” to a T. But while we love Messina as the supportive and lovable boyfriend, we can’t get enough of the unlikeable MD he plays to perfection on The Mindy Project. (Although, if the first season finale is any indication, somewhere inside that douchey shell is a gentle, sensitive, and possibly romantic soul!)
What’s next? Messina’s gearing up for his directorial debut, an as-yet-untitled project starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Don Johnson, and Derek Luke, set for theatrical release in 2014.
