Collectible: vintage typewriters
As his involvement in many war movies and the award-winning war TV drama Band of Brothers demonstrates, the acclaimed actor-director is a history buff at heart. Hanks collect vintage typewriters, and loves pre-WWII models. The Saving Private Ryan star has amassed some 100 manual typewriters to date. Hanks has admitted his obsession with the mechanical writing device, once telling The Independent, “I bought a $5 typewriter from Australia that cost me $85 to ship."
