After completing his BFA in musical theatre, Diggs made his Broadway debut in the 1994 revival of Carousel, which won Best Musical at the Tony Awards. The following year, he was part of the cast of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Rent. (It was during production that he met his now-wife, Idina Menzel.) The masses first took notice of him in the 1998 movies How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and he has continued to work in both film (in the movie adaptations of Chicago and Rent) and television, presently starring in the drama, Private Practice.
