Since his leading breakout role as Joel Goodsen in Risky Business (1983), Thomas Cruise Mapother IV has been a fixture on Hollywood’s A-list of actors for the last 25 years. His roles have led to memorable quotes such as “I feel the need for speed” (Top Gun), “I want the truth!” (A Few Good Men) and “Show me the money!” (Jerry Maguire).
Actor, film producer and Scientologist are just a few of the hats Cruise is known to wear. In 2006, he was ranked as the world’s most powerful celebrity by Forbes magazine. Cruise is one of only three actors in the history of film to have seven consecutive US $100 million blockbusters. The two other actors to achieve this notoriety are Tom Hanks and Will Smith.
Nowadays, Cruise is often better known for his off-screen antics including his couch-jumping declaration of love for then-girlfriend now wife Katie Holmes, his membership in the Church of Scientology and for allegedly buying a sonogram machine for personal home use while Holmes was pregnant with their daughter Suri.
