Dallas star Larry Hagman dies aged 81
(BANG) -Larry Hagman has passed away aged 81.

The 'Dallas' legend - famed for playing TV villain JR Ewing - died last night (23.11.12) after ongoing complications in his battle with throat cancer, with his family and close friends at his bedside.

Larry's family said in a statement: ''Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most. Larry's family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday.

''When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.''

The popular actor had reprised his role as JR in the modern reboot of the iconic show and often said he wouldn't have got through filming without the support of his co-stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy after being diagnosed with cancer last year.

The pair were also present during his last moments at Medical City Dallas Hospital, and Linda - who played JR's long-suffering wife Sue Ellen - commented: ''Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years. He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone who knew him. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented. I'll miss him enormously.''

Larry struggled with alcohol addiction over the course of his career and needed a liver transplant in 1995. His wife of 58 years, Maj, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008, and recently moved into a nursing home because her condition had deteriorated so severely.

Dozen of stars and friends have now taken to twitter to pay their respects to the actor's family.

Showbiz matriarch Sharon Osbourne wrote: ''So sad to hear about the passing of Larry Hagman. Sending love and respect to his family.''

Piers Morgan posted: ''Very sad to hear that Larry Hagman has died. His JR Ewing character was the greatest TV villain of them all. Wonderful actor. #RIP''

Louise I thought I already responded but I don't see my answer here.

They are most definitely writing his death into the series. The sad thing is that they had filmed 6 episodes (of 13?) so they are halfway through a season and now (as far as I can see it) everything will change. Dallas without JR? I don't see it lasting beyond neat year. Nor, to be fair, should it. JR's ghost and spirit will always hover over the series. I am so pleased that both Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray were at his side when he died. I only hope MY two best friends are there if it happens to me...which I also hope won't be until 2050 at least!

so sad to hear that. I grew up watching him play J.R. Ewing and enjoyed seeing him in the new Dallas series as well. He did an amazing job in that role. I know that he was very dedicated to his wife as she was dealing with her own health issues.

I grew up watching the original Dallas and J.R as with many was my favorite, pure talent when a bad character is loved. The famous line, Who killed J.R? People we have to find a cure for all cancers, all the money that has been poured into this I believe there is a cure we will never know about because it's a huge government industry, time to put pressure on this terrible issue that takes most of us! RIP Larry (JR Ewing)

So sorry to hear that Larry Hagman has passed away. Loved his character and really enjoyed watching him in the original Dallas and the new Dallas. I hope that they continue with the new series and pay tribute to his character and the man who made that show so memorable. Thank you Larry Hagman for many years of great TV.

Talented-gifted actor Larry Hagman was a creative funny actor and TV star who passed away at his age of 81. He was teh son of famous actress , singer and Broadway star Mary Martin

whom know fro her roll as Peter Pan. In 1995 Larry struggle with alcohol addition and was diagnosed with liver Cancer .he underwent a liver transplant. Since then he quite smoking and became an advocate for organ donation and anti-smoking effort. In year of 2011 a tumor in his mouth whihc triggered he had to battle with throat cancer. It was fortunately that Larry back to his favorite Home in Dallas where family and friends to have their ' Thanksgiving Dinner " in November 22nd of 2012

From where he can be re-enacting his famous show of " Dallas " from April 1978 to May of 1991. that show detracted family feuds and machinations of an impossibly wealthy Texas family with a tendency fro adultery, buck-stabbing and it built a violence. So as " Knot's Landing . Personally that I also lost a dear female friend who had throat cancer and passed away in March of 2012. May God bless them to have their avid destination in Heaven !

JR the best vilain there ever was....and Larry Hagman a great actor.

Just weeks ago he talked about his wife being too sick for him to take care of her and after 58 yrs putting her in a nursing home was the hardest decision he ever made.
