    Winter Skin Protection

Cold weather can cause your skin to be dry and irritated (ah, the joys of winter!). But it is possible to keep your skin beautiful all winter long despite the subzero temperatures and ice-cold winds. All you have to do is follow a few rules daily to keep your skin healthy and your face (and smile) glowing!

    Moisture, Moisture, Moisture!

We’ll never say it enough: the key to beautiful skin is moisture! Regardless of the season, your skin needs continuous moisture. So during winter, make sure to apply a thick, nourishing moisturizer to your skin (all over your body), especially after a hot shower or bath. If you’re confused about what kind of moisturizer to use, pick one that contains shea butter or olive oil, two products that are renowned for their intense moisturizing power.

    Shower and Bath time

In winter, many people like to take long baths. The downside is that hot water can dry your skin. We don’t expect you to start taking cold showers in the middle of winter; try to take a short, warm one instead. It’s also important to exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells; this will make it easier for moisturizing creams to penetrate deep into your skin and allow their ingredients to be more effective.

    Fun in the Sun

We know, we know; summer is over. But unfortunately, UV rays are just as damaging to your skin in winter as they are in summer. So if you’re planning a day of skiing, don’t forget to use sunscreen, or a moisturizer that contains SPF, to protect your skin. Yup, you need to go out and buy sunscreen…even in winter.

    Good Old H2O

In summer, we tend to drink more water and cold, refreshing drinks because of the heat; this keeps our bodies hydrated. In winter, we tend to do the opposite; we mostly drink warm liquids such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate (which are loaded with caffeine). Lots of caffeine often leads to dehydration, so be loyal to your water bottle—make it your best friend, all year long!

    Lotion and Lip Balm

Make sure to have some lip balm and body lotion on hand. Keep a small tube of each in your purse, and even leave some in your desk drawer at the office. Whether at work or running errands outside the house, you’ll definitely need it!

    Scarves, Hats and Mittens…

In winter, it’s important to protect the parts of your body which are exposed to the cold weather. This means that your face, your lips and your hands must be covered when you go outside. It’s one thing to keep them moisturized, but not protecting them from the harsh weather could have a considerably negative effect on your skin. So why not put all the odds in your favour? Bundle up before you go outside!

We know it can seem a bit daunting to follow all of the right skin care rules, but a few minutes a day can go a long way-- it’s just a matter of adaptation. It’s never too early to get into the right habits and at the end of the day--and in 20 years--your beautiful, healthy skin will be your reward.

It's good to get this timely reminder, we know most of the stuff, but tend to either forget or are too busy to follow the routine for more comfort.
