Shedding Light on Laser Hair Removal

How many treatments do I need?
A hair only needs one contact with a laser to disappear forever, on condition that the treatment takes place during its active growing phase. Not all hairs can expect to meet a laser during the right point in their development in one treatment, which is why repeated visits (generally six to eight at six to seven week intervals) are necessary to zap each hair during the appropriate growth stage.

Warning!
Although lasers are recognized as a secure hair-removal method, there are still precautions you must take. Avoid all sun exposure (and tanning booths) at least 48 hours before and after your treatment phase. Ideally, the treated area should not be exposed to any sunlight, in order to avoid complications and ensure effectiveness. Treatment on skin that’s not tanned is best; that’s why it’s better to have regions like the face, bikini, and legs done in winter.

Certain drugs can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the laser. Avoid taking these medications during your treatment, for at least nine months to one year. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to make sure any medication you’re taking won’t put you in danger. Also, for the 12 hours following an underarm treatment, do not use deodorant (48 hours if it’s an anti-perspirant).

What to expect after treatment

How effective is it?
You should know that most clinics do not guarantee results (100 per cent of your hairs gone forever) despite an overall high level of success.

After treatment, it is possible that some hairs will either remain, or reappear after a few months. These, however, are usually finer and not so visible. Some clinics do guarantee satisfaction and will throw in one or two extra sessions, if needed. However, if a lone few hairs reappear after your treatment, electrolysis may be the best option for getting rid of them—ask at your local clinic.

This is awefully timely of an article. i just booked an apt today.

Here's the thing though, i got laser done last year, and i did about 4 treatments, and then i stopped for a year. do i have to start over from scratch? it seems like all the hair grew back. damn me for being lazy and cheap.

Hello, I happen to own a laser shop in Northern B.C. I am not sure where you got your pricing from but you are extremly high. Upper lip is 40.00, and Legs knee down, is 150.00 and bikini (Regular) is 90.00. All of these are per session. With the machine I have you are looking at 8 - 12 sessions and returning once a year to hit all new folicles.

I think they mean $300 for the entire treatement. 6 to 8 appointments at $40 a pop comes up to around $300. It makes sense.

I am one of those 'candidates' that have dark hair and pale skin and I went and did my upper lip. It cost me over 2000.00 in total and still it hasn't been resolved. I've since stopped and am now waxing.
