It’s time to face facts and accept that we’re not all shaped like the models we see in magazines. Women come in different shapes and sizes, and are always beautiful! The best fashion tips anyone can provide is that one must dress according to their shape, so read on for what stylish items go best with your body type!

You are pear-shaped if…
You have narrow shoulders and are round in the middle. When you gain weight, it all goes to your hips and thighs. Most women are of this body type.

Look for:
Light and loose fabrics, that flow away from your body rather than cling to it.
Dark colours for pants or skirts, as they will camouflage your hips.
Short cardigans that fall beneath your bust, which will elongate your body.
Coloured shirts with prints, which will draw attention to your upper body rather than your hips.

Avoid:
Large belts, which will emphasize your waist.
Light-coloured bottoms.
A-line skirts.
Tops that are too tight.

You are apple-shaped if…
You don’t have a defined waist, and you have a round midsection.

Look for:
V-neck tops have a slimming effect on the body.
Knee-length skirts, which will make your legs look longer.
Flowing tunics that will flatter your shape.

Avoid:
High collars if you have larger breasts.
Shirts that are too short (above the waist), as they will make your torso look bigger.
Oversized clothing; many women erroneously think hiding in larger sizes would make them look less big.
Long skirts that will make you look much shorter.

You are rectangular-shaped if…
You don’t have a lot of curves and your waist is as large as your hips and shoulders. When you gain weight, it is distributed equally throughout your body.

Look for:
A fitted skirt that flows at the bottom.
Large, flashy belts that will define your waist.
Low-rise pants, which will accent your waist, as well as your hips.

Avoid:
Vertical stripes, so as to avoid elongating your body.
Pencil skirts, as they will amplify your rectangular shape.
One-piece outfits; opt for skirts instead of dresses.

I am I guess apple shape . Large waist and middriff. I find that wearing a long dress makes me look more feminine and also if I tuck in my blouse I look a lot slimmer. I use to be a fraid to tuck in my blouse but I now find it more appealing.

Help! I fall into none of these - I have large breasts, a belly and am smaller below the hips - eg: my chest is 42DD and I wear size 20 top but wear 16 pants.

I didn't realize that since I am apple shape, that it was best to avoid high collars (if you have larger breasts). It does make sense. Thanks.

It would be helpful if this article included helpful hints for other body issues such as very long torso, small waist, with small shoulders & bust, along with short heavy legs and hips as well as the opposite of this type; also would be nice to have advice on swimsuits for these body types. Thanks!

that's great for generic advice but what about a bit more detail for each one with tall or short, big or small?

i have the hourglass shape but i have an extended back and only 28" inseam so let me say that again...i'm Always pulling shirts down and Always hemming pants! The girls fill out the sweaters and tight fitting shirts but you're recommending them, so it's a bit confusing.

Plus I have tried to wear the medium size which i believe i would be if i wasn't endowed so well but then tried a large as well as extra large.

Sorry truth is they were too big and made me look bigger all around.
