    Romantic Curls How-To

    By Mariève Inoue
    Published March 17, 2009

Seen everywhere from the spring 2009 runway“it” looks for    shows to Alicia Keys at the Oscars, soft, romantic curls are one of themedium-length and longer hair this season. We’ve got step-by-step styling instructions to achieve this gorgeous style whether you were born with naturally-curly or straight strands.

    Step 1: Shampoo & Condition
Shampoo, then condition hair from the nape of the neck to the very ends of your strands.

    Wavy / Curly-haired gals:
    Straight-haired gals:

Choose a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner for extra-smooth locks.

Daily Moisture Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner by Dove
    $5.99 each in pharmacies
Choose a volumizing shampoo and conditioner to ensure your hair doesn’t get weighed down.

24H Body Shampoo & Conditioner by TRESemmé
    $6.49 each in pharmacies

    Step 2:
    Towel-Dry
Carefully squeeze the water out of your hair, but without rubbing it to avoid breakage. Wrapping it with a microfibre towel is the ideal way to sidestep frizz, and will help absorb the water faster.

    Step 3: Styling Prep
Work a styling product in your hair to give your curls lasting power, but avoid the roots to retain maximum volume. If you can, choose a product that will also protect your strands from the heat of the curling iron.

    Wavy / Curly-haired gals:
    Straight-haired gals:

Use a styling cream with extra-moisturizing properties and heat-protective ingredients.

    Nectar Thermique by Kérastase
    $38 at select beauty salons
Work a volumizing mousse into your mane to give it some texture before you start styling.

Full Frame 07 Volumizing Mousse by Redken
    $19.99 at Redken
