Be careful!
Avoid trying on too many fragrances at the same time so that the different scents don’t mix together.

Try not to smell a fragrance directly from the bottle, since the alcohol in it will cover up the perfume’s actual scent.

It’s never good to rub perfume on, even if the majority of people do. Friction activates the alcohol in the fragrance, which covers up the other scents.

Eau de toilette or Eau de parfum?
An important piece of information to know when you are choosing a fragrance is that, just like with everything else, there are different degrees of quality in the products. The two most common types of perfume are Eau de toilette and Eau de parfum. Both are alcohol or water-based solutions, but they each contain different concentrations of the fragrance’s scent. Eau de toilette contains around 10%, whereas Eau de parfum contains about 20%. Often times, the difference in concentration has an effect on how long the scent lasts, and that is why Eau de parfum tends to be a bit more expensive. Is the price difference worth it? We’d say “yes”, but of course it depends on what you are looking for. If you prefer scents that are light and discreet, Eau de toilette may suit your needs. However, if you are in the market for a product that lasts several hours, it may be best to go for an Eau de parfum. To increase the staying power of your fragrance, you might want to consider using derived products, such as shower gel or body lotion, of the same scent, before applying your fragrance.

What about storage?
The lifespan of a bottle of perfume can vary greatly, depending on where it is stored. When stored under adequate conditions, a bottle of perfume can last a little longer than one year. However, when exposed to light, the same bottle could lose its scent within just a few months. Even though it is very tempting to display pretty bottles of perfume where everyone can see them, they should never be exposed to light and heat. That is why bottles should be left in their original packaging (box) and be kept somewhere cool and dry.

Now you may conquer the perfume aisle with ease: you are ready to the find the scent that best compliments you.
