4 tips for transporting your clothing + shoes with care
Moving day is fast approaching. Luckily, you’re a pro and, as such, your boxes are packed and ready to go. While packing your household items is normally a breeze, each move brings on the more complicated matter of what to do about your precious sartorial wares. After today, this all-too-familiar conundrum will be no more! Below are a few tips on how to transport the contents of your wardrobe safely and neatly.
It’s in the bag! Naturally, you want nothing more than for your silk shirts, ethereal dresses and delicate blouses to remain wrinkle-free upon arrival at your new home, but purchasing enough garments bags to hold your entire wardrobe may prove costly. Luckily, a trusty household product does the job just as well: garbage bags. Simply divide your clothes in even sections across the closet bar, grab the first lot, tie a garbage bag twist-tie around the part just below the hook, then make a hole through the bottom of the garbage bag, and slip it over the lot, making sure to either tie or staple the open top-turned-bottom. Repeat the steps above for the rest of your clothes groupings, and voila!
Drawing out. As for the contents of your clothes drawers? Simple! Leave everything inside and, come moving day, simply place a folded blanket over each drawer, take them out one by one, and stack them neatly and carefully into the truck as is! A nifty solution that will save you from folding everything beforehand… and putting everything back afterwards!
For the love of shoes. Our carefully curated shoe collection deserves only the best care, especially on moving day. A great way to ensure they remain intact - if you find yourself without the shoe boxes that they came with - is by placing a layer of bubble wrap in between, under, and above each pair. The bubbles will thus provide adequate protection during the bumpy ride ahead, and minimize misshapement.
Tangle-free. Transporting necklaces are the cause of much stress, as we fear spending hours untangling them upon arrival. But have no fear: a most-clever solution is near! Armed with plastic zip bags (the number will depend on the size of your collection) and garbage bag twist-ties, divide your necklaces into even piles, grab the first few, and place them into a plastic zip bag in which you will have previously drawn a small hole just under the zip line. Then, take a garbage bag twist-tie and slip it into the hole right under the necklaces to keep them in place. Repeat these steps with the rest of your piles. This way, your precious gems won’t require any untangling upon arrival! |
