For non-aerobic activities
(that are a bit calmer)
Examples: walking, bird-watching, making a snowman, etc.
*Ideally, you should also avoid cotton for these types of activities.
*Wear long underwear as well as another layer of wool or fleece over them.
*Choose an insulated down coat or one made of synthetic fibers such as Hyperloft or PrimalLoft. The Down Patrol Jacket by Cloudveil and the Frostbreaker Parka by MEC are two very good coats to consider.
*Wear windbreaker pants (insulated or not; depending on the temperature and your metabolism).
*Once again, don’t forget your accessories: beanie, scarf, mittens and warm socks.
*Wear a pair of warm, waterproof boots (that also have insulated soles) such as the 1694 Premium Winter Boots by Sorel . Ideally, the inner boot should be removable and washable.

Also remember:
1. Make sure to eat and drink regularly so that you don’t catch cold.
2. The in-store label temperature ratings of certain clothing brands are only there as an indication. Each person is different; your resistance to the cold also depends on many other factors.
3. Certain fibers (such as down, Gore-Tex, Schoeller, etc.) require specific care: sales people can usually give you valuable information regarding how to wash, store and care for your clothing.
