    Health-Boosting Smoothies

Smoothies are fun to drink and perfect for cooling down during the hot summer months. But did you know they’re also a great source of protein, calcium, and lots of vitamins? Well, they can be—if you mix in the right ingredients. We’ve compiled five recipes for you to try, for whenever you need an extra little boost of energy: in the morning at breakfast time, right after a workout, or whenever you’re craving an extra-nutritious snack. Just pop all the ingredients into the blender, blend on high until smooth, and drink up! Pay extra attention to each recipe’s power ingredient(s), which can be added to boost the nutrition factor.

    Morning Glory

    ½ cup plain low-fat yogurt
½ banana, cut into large pieces
    A handful of frozen strawberries
    ¼ cup orange juice

Power ingredient: 1 tsp bee pollen granules*

Best in the a.m. to give your body the energy it needs to take on the day; the banana is full of potassium, an essential mineral in maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function. Another key ingredient is bee pollen granules, known to enhance vitality and increase energy levels.

    Post-Workout Punch

    ½ cup apple juice
¼ cup frozen low-fat vanilla yogurt

    ¼ cup soft tofu (drained)
    ¼ cup frozen peaches
½ banana, cut into large pieces
    1 tsp honey

Power ingredient: 1 tsp spirulina powder*

Great after a workout, the spirulina powder and tofu contained in this tasty drink makes it a source of protein, calcium, and iron, as well as vitamins B1, B2, C, D, E! An ideal way to re-energize your body after intense activities.
