    The Best Fast-Food Choices

    By Rebecca Schwarz
    Published October 15, 2007

Sometimes you just crave a burger, but don’t want to super size yourself. So we’ve rounded up some surprising fast-food high-calorie offenders, plus some alternatives, so you can treat yourself without too much damage to your figure. Check out divine.ca’s fast-food meals, each about 450 calories or less.

    Burger King
The Tendergrill Chicken sandwich sounds like a light choice but at 450 calories, it has 40 more than a double hamburger. You’re actually better off having a regular Cheeseburger, clocking in at 330 calories.

The best choice? A plain hamburger at 290 calories and 12 grams of fat. Add a Garden Salad (no chicken), and fat-free ranch dressing, for a total of 440 calories and 12 grams of fat.

    KFC
If you think skipping carbs when you order chicken is a smart move, think again. Those three pieces of Crispy Strips chicken? They pack 350 calories. The Original Recipe Sandwich has 320 calories, if you skip the sauce—not much of a difference.

The best choice? The Tender Roast Sandwich, again without sauce: 300 calories, and 4.5 grams of fat (if you skip the sauce). So yes, you can have your carbs and eat them, too. Add a corn on the cob for 450 calories and a total 7.5 fat grams.

    McDonald’s
Don’t let the word “grilled” fool you! The Grilled Chicken Deluxe Sandwich has 440 calories—that’s only 30 calories less than a fried Filet-o-Fish.

The best choice? A plain hamburger has only 270 calories, and you can treat yourself to a low-fat vanilla ice cream cone, for a total of 420 calories and 12.5 grams of fat.

    Subway
The 6" Roasted Chicken Breast sandwich has 342 calories, but that’s only 21 fewer calories than the 6" Steak & Cheese, with 363 calories.

The best choice? Go with the 6" Roast Beef Deli Style Sandwich (whole wheat bread) and its 274 calories, with 4.7 grams of fat. The calorie count does not include any condiments, so choose wisely, like mustard instead of mayo. Round out your meal with an oat and raisin cookie for 169 calories and an additional 7.6 grams of fat. Or add Cheddar Cheese to your sandwich for 177 calories, and 3.7 grams of fat.

    Taco Bell
Don’t think salad is a safe bet. The Taco Salad with salsa but without taco shells rings up 430 calories and, that’s only 10 fewer calories than the Big Beef Nachos Supreme.

The best choice?  The Grilled Chicken Soft Taco has 200 calories and 7 grams of fat. Add a side of Pintos 'N Cheese for an additional 180 calories and 8 grams of fat.

    Wendy’s
The Southwest Taco Salad has 430 calories; in our opinion, that’s a lot for lettuce. A medium Chocolate Frosty has the same calorie count, so what’s the point?

The best choice? A small serving of chilli has 220 calories and 6 grams of fat. You can even add a Chocolate Frosty Junior for 160 calories and 4 grams of fat.

It's healthy to treat yourself once a week and it also shocks your system if you have hit a plateau diet.

The grill chicken sandwich at McDonalds will be less if you have no mayo!, and just choose the meat only!, better still have it on a tortilla, one of... [more]
