Posing for Pictures

People tend to get snap-happy during the holidays, what with all the family reunions, parties with friends, and various get-togethers. You’ll probably be smiling for the camera on more occasions than you can count! Some lucky people are naturally photogenic—but it’s certainly not the case for everyone. Still, there are ways to help make sure you look the best you can in front of the camera—start with these five easy tips!

1. Stay still
This concept seems pretty basic, yet you’d be surprised how many people take a position, then move ever so slightly right before the picture is taken. The result can be anything from a blurred picture, to an awkward facial expression. When someone points a camera at you, choose your position (or maintain the one you’re already in), and do your best to stay perfectly still. This means no changing your facial expression, and no fixing your hair at the last minute. Also make sure your eyes are open, and NO BLINKING (if possible) until the shutter goes off.

2. Push your face forward
We know, you’ll look awkward doing this one. But we promise, it will transfer well onto the picture. Pushing your face forward will help in two different ways; first, it will elongate your neck. Second, it will also make sure your double chin never makes it into another picture again!

3. Turn your body
They say the camera adds 10 pounds—which it often does, especially if you’re facing the camera. How do you avoid looking larger than you actually are? It’s easy; just turn your body away from the camera a little bit, at a slight angle.

4. Don’t look directly at the camera
Looking directly into the camera lens means you are looking almost directly at the flash (it’s usually very close to the lens, especially on digital cameras). The light of the flash will reflect in your eyes, which could cause them to look red on the actual photo. Try to look at a fixed point that is just beside or above the photographer. Don’t worry, you’ll still look as if you’re looking at the camera on the actual picture, but this will greatly help reduce the chances of your eyes appearing red.

5. Practice makes perfect
The best way to make sure you are satisfied with your pics is to know how your face looks when you are making different facial expressions. Don’t hesitate to try different smiles out in the mirror. Do you prefer how you look when you’re grinning, smiling without showing teeth, or laughing? Once you’ve figured out your best photo face, practice making it in the mirror a few times, and put it on when there’s a camera pointed at you!

Also, from the Tyra Banks Show. She says if you say Hey, instead of cheese, it makes your smile look more natural!

It's an interesting concept and would be great if attached to your shoe. Don't know too much about it or how akward it is though. I would think if you have to attach it every time(with our weather changes) I can see a busy working person hesitating to use it due to time crunch.
