    Safe from the Sun

We know it, and you know it, too: the sun’s UVA and UVB rays are dangerous, and may cause you to develop skin cancer. Protection is key, so here’s a reminder on the basics of sun safety, as well as the latest products that will offer maximum protection.

    Quick Tips
    ▪ Wear sunscreen. It sounds basic, but it’s one of the best ways you can protect yourself, so slap some on whenever you plan on spending time outside. Note that the sun protection contained in most moisturizers will not suffice if you plan to spend a whole day in the sun—making it crucial to layer a proper sunscreen product over it. Apply 20 minutes before exposing your skin to the sun and 20 minutes after you’ve gone out (to ensure proper protection); reapply after swimming or sweating excessively. Don’t forget to protect your lips with a lip balm containing a minimum SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of 15.

    ▪ Cover up. Spending the day outdoors? Grab your prettiest sun hat and cardigan. Closely-knit materials are best for keeping your skin intact. And don’t forget proper sunglasses to protect your eyes against UVA and UVB rays.

    ▪ Plan your day. If you plan to do an activity outdoors, try to avoid the period between 11 am and 4 pm, which is when the sun’s rays are at their harshest.
