Grieving God’s Way The Path to Lasting Hope and Healing

By Margaret Brownley
Published by Thomas Nelson

Book Description

A 90-day devotional healing experience for the grieving spirit.

The death of a family member or friend is devastating. In fact, it can take five years or more for a person to adequately work through his or her grief, but because we live in a fast-paced society, we often sweep it under the rug or ignore it altogether. God has another plan.

Man’s Way: Numb the pain God’s Way: Heal the pain

Man’s Way: Don’t talk about it God’s Way: Share your pain

Man’s Way: Time heals God’s Way: Faith heals

Grieving God’s Way is a 90-day reader designed to bring hope and healing to those who have experienced loss. Each thoughtful devotional begins with a scripture and ends with a haiku, written to affirm the positive theme of the text.

Divided into four categories—body, soul, heart, and spirit—each day’s entry offers insight into the grieving process that increases understanding of God’s purposeful plan for healing the heart and soul.

My Review:

The process of healing isn’t always an easy one; this is why I was intrigued to read “Grieving God’s Way – The Path to Lasting Hope and Healing”, by Margaret Brownley.  This 90 day devotional, with much compassion, takes you through the stages of losing a loved one.  Dealing with feelings/emotions of sorrow will eventually take you to a place of reflection and (hopefully) healing.  The pages are filled with comforting words, and insightful, sympathetic support for your difficult time.

You can grow through your grief … or so Brownley attempts to show us through her plan of a methodical grieving process that follows God’s plan.  Through this plan, you should be able to get through the darkness.  This book is divided into 4 sections:  Healing the Grieving Body, Healing the Grieving Soul, Healing the Grieving Heart, and Healing the Grieving Spirit.  Each section shows you ‘Man’s Way’ and ‘God’s Way’ … this motivational devotional offers insightful scriptures and inspirational haikus to help ease the deep grief.

I would have truly appreciated having this book when my father passed away over 15 years ago.  Currently I am not mourning; however, since death is inevitable I’m certain I will be faced with grief sometime in the future … I will find comfort in “Grieving God’s Way” at that time.

Would I recommend this read?  Yes; I believe that a path to healing can be found within these pages.
