Maybe you could try different intervals - swim intensely for one lap, then switch to moderate intensity for two or three. Repeat, with no rest, until you've completed your 40 laps.
Or try different swimming strokes - front crawl, breast stroke...even try ending with bouts of treading water to work different muscle groups. | |
