I read this book recently and became bogged down at one point, reading about the devastation in Afghanistan, however am glad I went back and finished it. The characters were so well drawn that it was a fascinating read and very insightful.

This book by Alistair MacLeod is a most interesting look at Cape Breton and the settlers from Scotland. The novel uses flashbacks to tell the story, from a present that shows very different lifestyles of two brothers. I'm still in the midst of it and enjoying it very much.
