Dear Annick,
Yes, my spouse has a 680 acre ranch called Rockaboo...in eastern British Columbia. I am an American, here because of my spouse. When I grew up, I lived on a 50 acre farm in Northern California. My papa grew all kinds of produce and mama had chickens and sold the eggs. My dad also worked on dams in Northern California. SO..... I feel very comfortable and fit in well . I WAS a military wife for 38 years and then my husband abandoned the 4 sons and I. All of my family is scattered all over the states.
We are 20 miles from the closest half decent shopping. There is a tiny store and post office about 3 miles from us but the prices are quite high. After I got home from Mass today and made lunch, we drove to a city about 40 miles north of us and got groceries for the week. JP has a helper that lives in the OLD farm house and he eats the mid day feel with us also and I do the cooking.
I thought life would be quiet here but it is NOT. I lived in Washington state for many years doing in home nursing and everything was close and easy to shop... This ranch is beautiful and has a lake and waterfalls and people, just out of the blue will stop and ask if they can go on the land and see or hunt or fish. Even though there is some distance between farms, people stop by all the time to visit and the interruptions are constant. Not that that is upsetting, but I have a lot of work to do everyday and somedays I get so far behind.
Just recently, JP had to have a lot of trees cut down around the house because they were leaning over us and huge branches came down every time we had a windstorm which seems to be about once a week. One almost went thru the top of my head one day when we were standing on the deck, so JP said it is TIME... The mess in the yard is beyond belief and so we are trying to get that cleaned up...
