Sail away in luxury
A long weekend in Vegas, a girls-only road trip, an hours-long train ride to NYC: it seems we have taken every trip imaginable with our dearest BFFs. We could all use a break from the same ol’ routine, and travelling by different means may be on the agenda! Earlier this fall, we had the experience of a lifetime, sailing through the Gulf of the Saint Lawrence—from Boston to Montreal—with French luxury cruise line, Compagnie Du Ponant. We already shared with you some of what we saw during our 10-day journey on the blog, and now we’re breaking down what you can experience on board a ship from the company’s fleet.
We all know the positive effects a day at the spa with the gals can have on our well-being. The experience is multiplied on a boat, with Du Ponant’s ships boasting a lavish spa aboard, as well as other amenities to keep you relaxed and happy. Need a quick mani-pedi or haircut before the Captain’s welcome cocktail and dinner? Have time to lounge poolside on a sunny day before disembarking? Or perhaps your slightly sore muscles need a massage or a stint in the hammam after an afternoon of hiking or kayaking? We definitely indulged during our trip, which actually led to us feeling relaxed upon our return home… rather than needing a vacation following our vacation!
…and fun ashore!
During your travels, getting a feel of the area you’re visiting is a must. While it can be tempting to sit with your friends at the bar all afternoon, Du Ponant has fantastic excursions planned for almost every port-of-call throughout its course. Some of our activities included: heading atop Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor, Maine; visiting the Louisburg Fortress in Nova Scotia; exploring the Magdalen Islands; getting up close to the limestone monoliths on the island of Niapiskau in the Mingan Archipelago; and kayaking in Quebec’s gorgeous Saguenay region. But if your group is the kind that prefers to take it easy instead, taking the tender to shore and simply taking in the sights and sounds of the area from a restaurant terrace, well, that suffices, too!
Catered to your interests
Du Ponant offers a great number of destinations across the globe: we spent a few autumn days in New England and Eastern Canada (the dream!), but whether you prefer to cruise the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, or even the Baltic Sea, there is a cruise for everyone. Du Ponant even has theme cruises, such as diving in the Virgin Islands and the Grenadines, or if you’re gaga for golf, there are packages where you can experience the greens in Sardinia, Corsica, and Italy.
Next up for 2013: the newest member of Du Ponant’s fleet is the 264-passenger Le Soléal, which will make its inaugural journey in July through the Arctic. Also on the ship’s agenda for fall 2013 are cruises in Russia and Asia. Visit en.ponant.com for more details.
