To plunge food, typically vegetables or fruits, into boiling water quickly and then into cold water to halt the cooking process. Blanching is done to heighten and set colour and flavour in vegetables and to firm the flesh and to loosen skins with fruits.

To mix two or more ingredients together until they are combined.

To cook food in water or other liquid that is heated to the point that the water is bubbling vigorously.

To cook food, often meat or vegetables, at a low heat in a small amount of liquid for a lengthy period of time and while it's tightly covered.
