Canadian Red Cross |
|
|
Every day, the Red Cross improves the lives of millions of people worldwide. Take for example Anna and Gerta, two women touched by the Red Cross. At age 15, during the Second World War, Anna was separated from her family in Germany, and later learned her parents and a younger sister had died in Siberia. Her two brothers had been sent to an orphanage. Anna came to Canada in 1948 and will never forget September 27, 2006. On this day, Anna was contacted by Red Cross with news that they had found Gerta, her other younger sister, in Russia! After more than 60 years of separation, Anna was finally reunited with Gerta in Laval, Québec in July, 2007, in time to celebrate Gerta's 78th birthday.
The Canadian Red Cross is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the situation of the most vulnerable in Canada and throughout the world. Canadian Red Cross assists millions of people affected by disasters and conflicts in Canada and around the world through their Disaster and Conflict, Health and Injury Prevention, and Humanitarian Issues Programs as well as outreach programs tailored to meet the needs of individual communities across the country.

UNICEF Canada |
|
|
UNICEF is the world’s authority for children. With more than 60 years of on-the-ground experience in developing nations, UNICEF works in 156 countries and territories to save, protect and enhance children’s lives. UNICEF supports child health and nutrition programs, promotes quality basic education, protects children from violence, exploitation and AIDS, and is the world's largest provider of vaccines for developing nations.
How to get involved:
Help UNICEF during emergencies
In emergencies, such as the recent natural disasters in Myanmar and China, UNICEF is on the ground working to ensure that affected children receive safe drinking water, proper nourishment, shelter, healthcare and education.
Become a Global Parent
You can help change children’s lives every day through a monthly donation. As a Global Parent, you support many children who need your help. A donation every month provides children with ongoing medicine, food and shelter.
Purchase UNICEF Cards and Gifts/Gifts of Magic
For nearly 50 years, UNICEF has offered traditional greeting cards and unique gifts (shopunicef.ca). You can also purchase a Gift of Magic (unicefgiftsofmagic.ca), allowing you to make a donation in the name of a loved one. These donations are used to purchase items such as life-saving medicines or school supplies.
