Payments made by a corporation to its shareholders.

The average is computed from the stock prices of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the United States. Also referred to as "Dow Jones" or "The Dow" for short.

(1) Refers to the excess of assets over liabilities. (2) Refers to the net worth of a company. (3) The value of an ownership interest in a property. (4) A stock can also be called 'equity' because it represents ownership of a company.
