Most of us use our computers on a daily basis, whether at work or at home. How well do you know your way around your PC? We’ve got a few questions to answer for you to find out your level of comfort on your computer.

1. What types of applications are Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari?

Word processing programs.

Web browsers.

Photo editing programs.

Email clients.

Instant messaging applications.

2. You want to copy and then paste some text from a webpage into Word. How would you usually proceed?

Select the text to be copied, then go to the "Edit" menu, and click "Copy", then click "Paste" once you’re in the Word document.

Select the text to be copied, then right click and select "Copy". Then, go to Word, right click again, and select "Paste".

Select the text to be copied, hold the "Ctrl" and "C"keys. Then, go to Word, and hold the "Ctrl" and "V" keys.

3. There is a new printer on your floor at the office, but it’s not installed on your computer yet. You want to print a file: what do you do?

Call the IT department and get someone to come and install the printer on my computer.

Go into my computer’s Control Panel and install it myself in under 5 minutes.

Poke around on my computer’s Control Panel until I figure out how to install it.

4. A friend suggests that you defragment your hard drive. Do you know what she means?

Of course: I do it regularly to ensure my computer runs smoothly.

It’s vague, but I think I’ve heard of defragmenting before. I ask her for more info and try it.

Not a clue.
