6 Ways to Fill Up Your Alone Time

How to keep busy when single
Being alone: whether it’s because you recently got out of a relationship or your sweetie is away for a couple of months, finding the inclination to fill that void somehow may seem hard. But it really isn’t! Below, we’ve got six things you can do to during this period with the most awesome person in the world—you!

1. Do the things you love
We all tend to let the things we adore most fall to the wayside when in a relationship. But if you find yourself solo at one time or another, take back what was once yours: Sunday afternoons perusing the non-fiction aisle at the bookstore, evenings at the gym, Friday nights with your gal pals, etc.

2. Get a hobby
Keeping busy: it is nothing but a good thing, especially when single. Do something you’ve always wanted but never had the time to. Be it picking up a sport or taking a class like cooking or art, gaining new knowledge and skills will be of benefit to you, and there’s both the fun aspect and the fact that you can make new friends or acquaintances.

3. Throw in a bit of culture, both high and low
A Sunday afternoon with no one to hang out with? There’s nothing keeping you from hitting the local fine arts museum for that travelling exhibit you’ve been dying to see. Not a gallery fan? Then head to the local movie theatre to catch one of those mindless comedies your ex used to always make fun of you for, guilt-free!

4. Volunteer
When you find yourself with extra time on your hands, it’s nice to fill it up doing something that can help others. For example, become a Big Sister to a disadvantaged child, spend time at a soup kitchen (especially during the upcoming winter season), or visit the elderly at a nearby nursing home. After all, when you do good, you feel good.

5. Pamper yourself
There is nothing more comforting than a day just for yourself, especially at the spa! Use whatever solo time you have to treat yourself to something relaxing: a massage, a facial, or even a mani-pedi. You will assuredly come out of it feeling happy and sexy.

6. Go on a trip
Vacations can tend to be a hassle when there are other parties involved, and disagreements on what sights to see, what restaurants to eat at, etc. tend to surface. If you have the time and money to go on a solo trip, it is a must to experience at least once in your life. Where will you go?
