10 things to enjoy when you’re not in a relationship
Like anything else in life, there are both advantages and disadvantages to being in a relationship… which is why we really try to appreciate whichever situation we’re currently in, down to the littlest details. Today, we take a look at the smaller pleasures of being a single gal; of course, none of these are impossible to pull off when you’re in a committed relationship—you may just not be able to indulge quite as often!

All the ex-single ladies out there: admit it! As soon as your beau gets out of bed, even when you know he’s bound to return within just a few minutes, you instantly start taking up more room in the bed. Sleeping alone is definitely one of the perks of single life!
#2: Go to the movies alone… and give your undivided attention to the film. Exit those “Pssst, babe—what just happened? / Pass the popcorn!” moments. Going to the movies alone means being able to focus solely on what’s happening on-screen, and become completely immersed in the plot.
#3: Strike up a conversation with the hottie sitting at the coffee shop.
Of course, it’s always alright to make friends… but a significant other may not always appreciate you deliberately starting a chat with sexy strangers. But you can do it completely guilt-free when you’re single!
#4: Take up a new hobby… and let yourself become really passionate about it.
Always wanted to learn Italian, or how to play the harp? Now’s the best time to start taking lessons, and really dedicate time to perfecting your craft: you’ll be able to dedicate as much time as you want to your new hobby.
#5: Have a sleepover with the girls.
Leave all preconceived images of pillow fights and hair brushing parties aside, and have your best girl friends stay over for the night. Watch your favourite flicks, and stay up all night drinking wine and talking. No one will have to drive home afterwards!
#6: Go on a trip alone—and do exactly what you want.
Travelling with a partner means finding a consensus about where to go and what to do. But planning a trip alone is completely different: you get to plan everything that you want to do, or plan nothing at all, if that’s how you prefer to roll… and that’s fine, too!
#7: Watch as many girly movies as you can.
There’s a reason why they’re called ‘chick flicks—we personally can’t think of that many men who like watching them. If you’re into this movie genre, we suggest fitting in as many titles as you can while you’re single. Occasions to watch them may suddenly become scarce!
#8: Wear the fluffiest, comfiest pyjama you can find.
Put comfort before sexiness… and enjoy every minute of it!
![]() #9: Talk on the phone for hours at a time.
Chat with mom on the phone every day, or with your best gal pal—there never seems to be as much time for that once Mr. Right comes along.
#10: Cook exactly what you want, without any constraints.
Take advantage of this single spell to whip up your favourite meals exactly how you like them, with all your favourite ingredients. No compromising with someone else’s tastes!
