DIY tips to cozify your home this summer
Our home is our sanctuary. Away from the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day, our abode routinely provides warmth, comfort, and security. And come that weekly evening reserved for romance, the bedroom is where we retreat to keep the flame burning bright. However, if you feel the latter love nest is losing its charm as you retire to it night after night, perhaps a change of scenery is in order. Luckily, with a bit of ingenuity, you can easily turn other spaces within and around your home into an equally serene and loved-filled alcove for two!
At the moviesYou’ve made many a trip to the drive-in on date night, but this time around, why not bring the drive-in to your backyard? First things first, set up an outdoor dining area, using two bean bag chairs and a round wooden stool, where you and sweetie will enjoy a delectable candlelit dinner. After a scrumptious feast under the stars, make your way (on foot) to the adjacent “walk-in” theater, where two deck chairs, brimming with colourful cushions, placed under Christmas lights wrapped around the tree branches above, beckon you. Lie down next to sweetie, and with popcorn in hand, enjoy your cinematic love story of choice as it unfolds on the white top sheet screen before you.
What you’ll need: two bean bag chairs, strings of Christmas lights, round wooden stool, candles, large popcorn bowl, two deck chairs, cushions, projector, and white top sheet.
Under the tent Prefer to keep your romantic rendez-vous indoors? No problem! As your bedroom enjoys a much-needed respite, take the evening to… the living room! The latter space, too, can be made into a sumptuous and magical rest and relaxation hub for two. How, you ask? Think nomadic boudoir. This time around, all the cushions fall to the floor, atop a large, rich velour blanket. Then, simply hang light blankets (or sheets) and Christmas lights from the ceiling to recreate a Bedouin tent under the “starry” sky. Now, take a seat next to your beau and let yourself be transported by the haunting melodies of Nina Simone as you enjoy a glass of wine and a delectable home-cooked meal!
What you’ll need: blankets or sheets, strings of Christmas lights, cushions, wine glasses, stereo, and The Very Best of Nina Simone. (The latter is optional, but we highly recommend it to set the right mood!) |
