| Hey, Anyone looking for a trip to Portugal??
www.olivieri.ca - giving away a trip....
No purchase necessary, but I think it's way easier if you happen to have olivieri products and upc codes. I'm not sure what the process is for no upc codes. |

Starbucks...My surreal adventure

| OK, I am at Starbucks yesterday morning. It's a really tiny franchise with a little counter, two girls behind it and a tiny eating space, so it's pretty cramped. I get up to the counter and order two grande specialty coffees. The girl brings them one grande size (as ordered) and the other one is venti size (larger than ordered). I explain that I ordered two grande. She says "oh" and proceeds to charge me for a grande and a venti.
"uh, well, I ordered two grande so really, I only want to pay for two grande"
"oh" says the girl. "well, I'll have to make a new one"
"ok." I say, "but can't you maybe just pour that venti into the grande cup"
"no. It won't fit in there" she says.
pause.
"yes, that's right, but you can throw the rest away"
"oh, no I can't. I have to make another and then your other coffee will be cold".
"OK, well, what can we do about this because I didn't order this, it was a mistake, but let's solve it" (I'm getting tense because the line is growing ever longer, while still trying to maintain all politeness.)
"um." long pause from girl as she stares at me, mouth slightly agape.
pause.
pause. (I'm a fan of the awkward pause, it's quite effective actually)
The girl turns around, looks under the counter, walks a full circle around the other girl working the counter and comes back to me.
"well, um...I talked to my manager and we're just going to give you the venti for the cost of the grande"
now it's my turn to pause.
"you know that I can SEE you right?" I ask quietly....
(The guy next to me is outright laughing his head off at this point.)
"what?" she asks.
pause.
"ok, well, that's fine then, I'll just pay for the two grandes".
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm.
As I left, the guy behind me says, in a stage whisper, "do you think the manager is under the counter there???" |

HEY YA

|
| OK, everyone remember the recent hit Hey Ya ? Well, I found an acoustic version and it's on my profile music. It's a great cover of the original (I think), so if you liked it and want to actually understand the words of the song (!) then have a listen!
Hope you enjoy it! |

Horseback Riding..The Highs and Lows

| Hello Parents out there....looking for advice/support/comments:
My daughter is obsessed with ponies and all things related to anything equine. She has been riding for 3 years and last year (Nov 06) She had a terrible fall during a class, landing on her face and breaking several bones (nose, cheekbone, teeth). The only time this child cried at the hospital was when they told her she couldn't ride for 6 weeks. So, of course, to support her passion and not become a crazy-protective parent, I supported her return to horses.
Thanksgiving Monday, she had another fall - this time onto the back of her head/neck/shoulder. She was wearing armour and of course a helmet. So, no broken bones, but a very bad fall causing a whip-lash like condition and she is in a fair amount of pain, can't turn her head etc.
JEESH, I always thought it would be my son in the hospital over all his hockey. He's never so much as had a sprain (knock wood!!) but she's now spent all this time in the hospital b/c of the horseback riding.
Of course, she wants back on.
THEN, some "Sensitive" coworker says, "hey, most accidents that cause paralysis are from horseback riding accidents". THANKS for saying that.
So, although I long to fulfill her passion - and when I tell you it is a passion...well, she already knows what college she wants to go to to become a Ferrier, and how she will get there. (She is 10). And I will very likely let her back on, however, I have to say I feel scared that these are really quite unpredictable animals...and if one more member of my family reminds me of Christopher Reid... jeesh.
ADVICE? THOUGHTS?
Thanks,
Nicole |

What is with RUDENESS ??? Am I being overly sensitive here??

OK, my kids go to our local school. My daughter had to stay off yesterday afternoon because I managed to get her a dr. appointment that I've wanted for a long time. I call the school and since it is lunch I have to leave a message with a student. So, to be sure that her teacher knows and the office knows, I follow up with an email to the school secretary. A woman NOT known for her cheery personality, but I've never directly had any problems with her. My message is cheery and calls her by her first name (she is young-ish) and I sign off with my name...
She writes back: "Thank you for your email. All parents must phone the school, not use email. In the future, do so. Ms Crankypants (an alias to protect the RUDE).
Jeesh. "In the future, DO SO?" I mean, we work for the same organization, we have internal email, and she's giving me grief for making sure they KNOW that my kid is absent?????? What on earth????
Just pondering the fact that she knows her job is pretty secure because in the private sector, I think the rude secretary wouldn't be the secretary for very long.
GRRR. |

In These Shoes???
Tuesday, October 2 2007 at 1:08 pm
|
|
| As I try valiantly to work in my new Jimmy's and my feet bleed and resist, I'm reminded of the Kirsty McColl song...called, appropriately, "In these shoes". It is about this woman who gets all these great offers from hot men that she can't go ahead with because of her inappropriate footwear. I have loaded it to my profile if anyone wants to listen to it...it has become my favourite song. At least until I can find one about my near-pathological need for Victoria's Secret underwear.... |
