It could be that she has either arthritis or pain in her back legs.  My dog chews on his paw to get to the pain - I feed her a glucosamin pill incased in peanut butter.  Can you get some drops from the pet store to try?

My sister's cat did the same thing - I think it was because she had some type of itchy skin - so she was chewing the fir off to scratch the itch.

Hi,,Ok we used to have a cat whom did this all the time,,,the doc told us he could find no reason,,besides that it may have been in our cat,,,a case of nerves..Callie we called her our scaredy cat...she was very shy,,and didn't like change or strangers...He said the usual reason were,,,dry skin,,,you can use tea tree oil on a cats fur and it will help..or fleas,,spray with flea spray or use again the tea tree oil,,(good for many things) or it could be like the others have said,,could be caused by pain of some kind...

Good Luck

My cat Patches use to do that.  We affectionately called her baboon butt.  We tried everything.  The vet had no explanation.  We made a homemade cone for her head.....boy did she love that....NOT.  Everything failed so my husband put cream the doctor had given him for eczema on his hand on her hairless areas and it cleared everything up and never came back.  It must have been itchy for the cat.  BTW, the cream didn't work for hubby's hand! LOL
