Parks Canada offering free admission to all national parks on Canada Day by dolphinwolf
Sunday, June 28 2009 at 2:55 pm

People hoping to spend Canada Day at a national park or historic site won't have to open their wallets this year.

On Friday, Parks Canada announced it will be offering free admission to all national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas on July 1.

"Canada Day is the ideal time for Canadians and visitors from around the world to experience Canada's national heritage," Jim Prentice, minister responsible for Parks Canada, said in a media release. "I'm inviting everyone to learn and experience something special about Canada by visiting one of our country's treasured natural and historic places."

This announcement comes after a two-year Parks Canada fee freeze to make some of Canada's major tourism destinations more affordable.

There are 42 national parks, 162 national historic sites and three national marine conservation areas across Canada.
