Summer may be the best time of year to be single and dating; the possibilities for fun first-dates are limited only by the weather report, so we’ve got ideas for hot days, rainy days, even heat waves. If you have a car, why not drive out to a nearby farm and pick berries? If you’re stuck in the city, don’t worry: there’s so much to do you, might have hard time deciding! Read on and get inspired, then get out there! 1. Sports
Go to a big league baseball game or check out your local softball league-- or any outdoor sporting event for that matter. Either way, there are sure to be hot dogs and beer. What’s more fun than watching athletes at their peak performing in a marathon or tournament? Eating vast quantities of unhealthy food, that’s what. Pass the squirt bottle of cheese, please.
If you and your date prefer to get physical, another option is to get outside and play tennis, cycle, roller blade, or play a round of mini-golf– anything called ”mini putt” has to be fun.
2. Water park If you’re at the bathing-suit stage, then go ahead and revisit your childhood with a trip to the water park. There’s no better way to get to know someone than being propelled together down a water slide. Yes, it’s cheesy, but it’s also fun and a good choice for hot, humid days.
3. Festivals and special events
Summer festivals may spark your first fight; jazz festivals, fireworks competitions, fairs, and amusement parks– most cities offer so much, that it can be hard to choose. Many Canadian cities also offer performances like Shakespeare in the park, and outdoor film screenings and concerts. Pick up your local paper or drop by your city’s tourism office for a full list of what to fight over.
4. Picking berries (and other fruits) at a local farm 5. Drive-in movie This one is a classic; movies, in the comfort of your own car. It’s romantic, cheesy and nostalgic. If you’re really lucky, your local drive-in will also have roller-skating waitresses serving cheeseburgers and fries. Make sure you choose a movie that fits the spirit of the drive-in experience– think “I Spit on Your Grave”, rather than ”The Unbearable Lightness of Being”.
